From Bill Hamburg:
After retiring from corporate life, we were interested in producing bronze statues of the classic Western heroes. The Lone Ranger was the first one we attempted to license, but for various reasons the Clayton Moore piece didn’t happen. We were successful creating bronzes of Roy Rogers and Hopalong Cassidy. Loretta (wife) was collecting cookie jars and suggested we try to do one.
Hopalong Cassidy was the first jar we decided on as Roy Rogers was already licensed.
We met with William Boyd’s wife, Grace, who owned the rights to the character, to get her approval (she was a real sweetheart) and we set out to make both bronzes and cookie jars. The cookie jars were an easier sell, so we decided to focus on just jars. That’s how we got into the business. And what a fun business it was. We met so many wonderful people and in spite of obstacles and issues we really enjoyed it. We phased out production over 20 years ago, but held back small quantities of some jars for future sale. We sell those reserve jars on eBay along with other collectibles.
