- Abingdon was founded in 1908 as the Abingdon Sanitary Manufacturing Company, producing toilet fixtures and commodes.
- It was in the early thirties that the pottery (because of the depression and lack of construction) started doing artware, but kept the same name.
- In 1945 the name was finally changed to reflect their new products — Abingdon Potteries, Inc.
- In 1951 the company was sold to Briggs Manufacturing Company which converted it back to producing sanitary products.
- The molds were sold to another company, Pigeon Pottery. According to Mike Schneider of The Complete Cookie Jar Book, the molds ended up with Western Stoneware Company and, most likely, Regal China Company since some of their jars are almost duplicates to Abingdon.
- Hand painting of the pottery didn’t start until 1942 — hence cookie jars would have been made in the time frame of 1942 -1950.
