| This artist paints . . . LOADS OF PERSONALITY IN HER COOKIE JARS by Merla Davis | |

In October of 1998 while on a trip to visit fellow cookie jar collector, Sandi Phillips, in Clarkston, WA, I was lucky enough to see the work of Snohomish artist, Sharon Stumpf, of Harvest Home Originals. I fell in love with this turtle jar. Talk about personality! I contacted Sharon and we became fast friends over the phone, further proving that cookie jar folks are the best folks in the world. Here is Sharon's story. Sharon says, "I've painted all my life but the fun really began in 1996 when my husband and I started our small business. My husband and I cast all the molds here at home, using top quality slip and we are very proud of our cookie jars. |
A sampling of the ones we do are:
Humpty Dumpty, Black Americana, fishing creel with bass handle, Rooster, Rabbit, Snowman,
Victorian House, Clown, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, fruit basket, vegetable basket and more.
Many are finished with a gold trim to give them an extra WOW. We also do a line of dinnerware,
pitchers, teapots, plates, etc. All hand painted in the fruit and vegetable motifs."
![]() As our business grew we noticed a big interest was in our cookie jars, which in turn, got us interested in cookie jar collecting. We now have just under one hundred jars in our collection, which includes a Shawnee Puss n Boots, McCoy Engine and MacDog, Brush Brown Cow, Regal Diaper Pin Pig and LRRH, AB Dutch Boy and Cookie Bear, Sierra Vista Rooster. Two jars I long for are RRP Hey Diddle Diddle and Pottery Guild Elsie the Cow. We recently purchased a computer and have plans for a website in the future. We are excited to join the ACJA and further explore the cookie jar world, and to get to know others who "have the sickness". (You know who you are! Ha) But isn't it a wonderful illness to have! | |
