JOINING IN WITH THE ACJA

byBeverly Sutton

Now that the holiday season is behind us, it's time to get down to everyday life and our usual routines. Sometimes routines get boring, but after all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it seems only normal to do our tasks in a timely and reasonable fashion. We get back to work; we take care of ourselves and our family; we begin to think about things we would like to accomplish during the year.

The holiday season may be over, but the season is never over for joining the ACJA. Membership applications are on this site. Just print it off, fill in the blanks, attach your check, and mail it to Julie (her address is on the membership application).

Perhaps you have been thinking of joining, but just haven't done so yet. Perhaps you keep asking yourself: Why should I join the ACJA? Of course, I have my reasons for joining up, and I will share them with you. First of all, I collect cookie jars, and I had a desire to learn more about them so my collection would include many different jars and makers. I wanted to know all I could about them so I could get the best jar for the best price! The sharing of knowledge of many different collectors has been invaluable! Secondly, I have formed great friendships with some members of the club. Some of us have become more than friends; we are like family! Thirdly, I wanted my collection to be diverse, and with members from all parts of the country, I could see and have the opportunity to buy jars from north to south, east to west!

Perhaps you are asking yourself this question: What will I get if I join the ACJA? Along with the opportunity to widen your horizons on cookie jars and expand your collection, also including the friendships you can form along the way, you also will receive a membership card, a printed directory of the members, and the opportunity to purchase official ACJA logo merchandise. There is also a website that contains a wealth of information and a "For Sale" section. Of course, you don't have to be a member to view the website, but to list any jars you have for sale, you must be a member. This is a free listing...no listing fees, no selling fees, no commissions!

Okay, so what are you waiting for? Join today!

What if you are already a member and you want to do more? No problem! Just send an email to the officers listed on the website and say to them: I want to do more for the ACJA! There are a number of committees that need volunteers. It doesn't take a lot of time, mostly just the willingness to participate and give a few hours of thought, insight and your knowledge. Another way you can help is to write an article about your experiences, your collection. Perhaps you have a special jar in your collection. We would love to hear your story! Maybe you found it in an unusual place or in an unusual manner; maybe you got it for a "steal"! The other members would love to know about it! Also, your story might prompt other jar collectors to join the club!

Remember, you don't have to have a houseful of jars.... three is a collection! But, most of all, the ACJA is a group of people joined together for a common cause. The Mission Statement of the ACJA is "to bring together all those who share a love for cookie jar collecting with the goal to promote fun, fellowship, education and the sharing of information with our fellow collectors. We hope to help educate each other, so that we can all make informed decisions with regard to what is right for our own personal collections and share the joy that we feel in collecting cookie jars".

So...Join in today with the ACJA!
