The Ugly Cookie Jar Contest!

by Sandi Phillips

ACJA Treasurer Merla Davis decided to sponsor an ugly cookie jar for ACJA members at Belleville, IL, during the 7th annual National Cookie Jar Show. Could there really be such a thing as an "ugly" cookie jar I wondered? (I don't have any in my collection, of course!!) The prize would be a Warner Bros. Liberty Bugs. You could send in a picture by email or snail mail, a few folks even brought their jar in person to the show.

Pictured below is proof that there are some very ugly cookie jars out there!

Folks at the cookie jar show were allowed to vote and when the dust settled the winner was: "Horace" a chicken head jar from the collection of Johnny Sutton, an ACJA member from Union City, TN. Congrats to Johnny and thanks to Merla for providing us with much laughter! Pictured below is the winning entry on the left. Merla Davis and Johnny Sutton with the prize jar are pictured on the right. Merla and Johnny you made a believer out of me, there are ugly cookie jars out there!

Johnny has an extensive collection of "distinctive" chicken cookie jars. You can view at: http://members3.clubphoto.com/beverly228302/Collections__Johnnys_Jars/
