Our old pick up truck was full of stuff earmarked for the dump that Friday morning. By emptying it, I could save some time during what looked to be a very busy weekend. I figured my hubby Carl would be a little cranky about me doing the work alone, but it would be worth his gentle scolding to get a jump-start on our weekend chores. On the way to the dump, low and behold was a yard sale! All our rigs are schooled in “sailin” and automatically go over to the curb. The lady having the yard sale was very fun. Of course we got to gabbing. She had wonderful evening bags for sale. I commented on them and she told me, “I collect them, but needed to thin down my collection. My first husband was very interested in ladies handbags. He was even more interested in the ladies who carried them, so he had to go too,” she laughingly told me.
No cookie jar was in sight. I mentioned to her that I collected cookie jars; did she have one for sale? She said, “I have this old rose cookie jar that I have had for ages and have been meaning to replace. If you buy it, I would have an excuse to get another!” She went in the house and brought out a Metlox Rose cookie jar, half full of Oreos. I paid her for the jar and got back on the road. A Metlox Rose at a yard sale! Awesome! Does life get any better than this I wondered?
At the dump everything went smoothly until the truck sputtered and died as I was leaving. I called Carl knowing that my “gentle scolding” would be coming sooner than I had anticipated! He said, “I’ll be right there.”
While I was waiting for him, the dog from the dump came over and introduced himself. I figured, being the neighborly type myself, that I should offer him an Oreo. We sat and ate cookies until Carl got there, both of us with silly grins on our faces. You better believe I was smart enough to save some cookies for Carl! I figured they would go a long way towards sweetening him up and how loud could he scold with his mouth full of cookies?
That was the last time the Metlox Rose had cookies in it. It now has a place of honor in my cookie jar collection. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the last time I got a “gentle scolding” from Carl though! :)
